And So The Story Begins

Categories: Straight From The Leonberger's Mouth

When I woke up in Edmonton, Alberta yesterday morning, I had no idea where this day would take me.  Mom dressed me up in this pretty little red vest, put me in the car with bags of stuff and drove me to a hotel down the road.  We went into the lobby and asked the guy at the front desk to call somebody named Brenda Bell.  A few minutes later, here comes this skinny lady I’ve never seen before… and next thing I  know, Mom is handing me over!

When they try to walk me on leash to the skinny lady’s room, man did I put on the brakes.  For all the good it did…

Then Mom and the skinny lady — what’s her name again?  Oh yeah… Brenda.  So Mom and Brenda start shuffling around a lot of papers and I decide to explore a bit.  The next thing I know, Mom gives me a hug and walks out the door.  This cannot be a good thing.  If I had known what was going to happen next, I might have started raising holy hell to make Brenda yell for my Mom… but no… I just had to be the perfect little puppy, didn’t I.

Anyway, an hour later, Brenda grabs me and her bags and hoofs it back to the lobby.  She sits down and lays one of my paper pads at her feet just in case the urge strikes.  Next thing I know, we jump on this white van that takes us to the Edmonton airport.

After dumping the suitcase, I’m starting to think this ain’t so bad.  I’m getting all sorts of attention — everybody smiling and stopping to pet me and saying what a cute puppy I am.  It’s a little scary with the place being so big and crowded, but I finally figure out that walking between Brenda’s legs makes me feel pretty secure so that’s what I do.

By this point, I’ve pretty much figured out that Brenda is my new Mom.  I’m really going to miss my old Mom, but Brenda seems real nice so I decide to make the best of it.

After what seems like years, we finally get on this big airplane.  Not a minute too soon because I’m tired of all the attention and ready to take a nice long nap.  Obviously my new Mom has some dog sense, because first thing she did was lay one of my paper pads and a couple nice fuzzy towels at her feet to make me comfortable.  I was snoozing within minutes.
