Tips & Tricks

The one thing in your favor is that Leonbergers are a lot bigger than cats. So the trick is to make the access point big enough for the cat, but too small for the Leonberger.

What you’ll need:

  • 2 sets of small brass hooks and eyes (the kind you can screw into a wooden door and frame)
  • A short wooden dowel, about 3/4″ diameter and 3-5″ long

How to construct your doggy doorstop:

  1. Screw one hook into the center of each end of the dowel.
  2. Screw one eye about eye-height into the edge of the door.
  3. Screw the other eye at the same height into the door facing or jamb.
  4. Hook the dowel onto the eyes and you now have a door that’s permanently ajar so the cats can get in and out, but the Leonbergers can’t.

Just make sure you get the position right before you start attaching things. If the door opens into the litter room, one eye should be on the outward facing side of the door with the other on the door facing inside the room. Otherwise, one eye should be on the inward facing side of the door with the other on the door jamb.
